CGEIT Certification Grandfathering Application

ISACA developed the Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT™ (CGEIT™) certification for professionals charged with satisfying the IT governance needs of an enterprise.  The certification program recognizes those who have the necessary level of professional knowledge, personal skills and business experience to maximize the contribution made by information technology to an enterprise’s success while managing and mitigating risks posed by IT.

CISA and CISM Exam Scoring
The scoring scale for the CISA and CISM exams has changed effective with the June 2007 exam administration.  Below is a description of the new scale and why the change was made.
ISACA will provide CISA and CISM exam scores according to a scale from 200-800, with the passing score set at 450 and above. A scaled score is a conversion of the raw score on an exam to a common scale.  This is a change from the 1-100 point scale that was used previously, with the passing point set at 75.
The passing score of 450 represents the minimum number of questions that must be answered correctly by you in order to demonstrate practical application of the job task and knowledge statements. Regardless of the scale used for scoring, overall exam pass/fail results are the same. In other words, no more, or fewer, candidates pass or fail the exam under the 200-800 scale as did under the 1-100 scale scoring.
The scoring system was changed to remove the perception that the score received is a percentage of questions answered correctly. The use of a 200-800 point scale also allows ISACA to report a wider range of scores. For example, under the 1-100 point scale, several raw scores were given the same scaled score. Using the 200-800 point scale, each raw score will have its own unique scaled score. We hope that this has helped to explain what a scaled score is and how it will be reported on ISACA exams.

New CGEIT Credential

ISACA® is pleased to announce a new credential program specifically developed for professionals who have responsibilities for managing and/or governing the IT-related contribution in an enterprise. The new Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT™ (CGEIT™) credential is intended for a wide range of professionals who wish to be recognized for their knowledge and application of IT governance principles and practices.

The job practice, which is available at www.isaca.org/cgeit, will serve as the basis for the exam and for the experience requirements. This job practice consists of task and knowledge statements, organized by content areas. These statements and areas were the result of extensive research and feedback from subject matter experts from around the world. Numerous reference sources were utilized including research conducted by the IT Governance Institute® (ITGI™).

To earn the CGEIT credential, an individual will be required to:
• Pass the CGEIT exam
• Adhere to the ISACA Code of Professional Ethics
• Agree to comply with the CGEIT continuing professional education policy

Provide evidence of appropriate IT governance and/or management experience as defined by CGEIT’s job practice The initial exam is expected to be administered in December 2008. A grandfathering program will be announced shortly, through which highly experienced professionals may apply for CGEIT certification without taking the exam.

Over the the past few years, ISACA and ITGI have undertaken various initiatives to revise their strategy, implement a balanced scorecard and review the overall governance practices across the organization. There are risks in everything ISACA and ITGI do in pursuit of the organizations’ strategies. For this reason, ISACA and ITGI have developed and implemented an enterprise risk management (ERM) framework.

To help members understand ISACA’s and ITGI’s ERM process and status, ISACA and ITGI have prepared a webcast that provides a brief introduction to the organizations’ ERM framework. The webcast is available at www.isaca.org/ERMmembers5.

NEW CISA and CISA Update: Applications for Certification

Since the release of the June exam results, a large number of applications have been received at International Headquarters. We want to remind exam passers that you are not certified until you have submitted your application and received approval from ISACA. The CISA and CISM designations may not be used until that approval has been received.

There are many CISA exam passers from the June exam who have not submitted their applications. We encourage these members to submit their applications if they meet all of the requirements. If they do not apply within five years of their exam date, their score is invalidated. Applications can be downloaded at www.isaca.org/cisaapp or www.isaca.org/cismapp for the respective certification.
